Helvetica - Max Miedinger

Helvetica was first developed in 1957. By type designers Max Miedinger and Eduard Hoffmann at the haas'sche Schriftgiesserei. Haas set out to design a new sans-serif typeface that could compete with the successful Akzidenz-Grotesk in the swiss market. The aim of the new design was to create a neutral typeface that had great clarity, no intrinsic meaning in its form, and could be used on a wide variety of signage.
Helvetica is one of the most common used typeface today, It can be seen anywhere from signs, advertisements, logo or even in shops.

Sister Corita Kent...

I really like this particle artists work... i like how she expresses emotions through her simple work, using different types and expressive colours to suit the mood that, that particular piece relates to.
I really like the one above because of the bold, bright colours against the plain white background. However the one below is much more sutle but it still has the same impact...

Laz Marquez...

Above is a selection of Laz Marquez's work, who is a graphic designerI really like his work cause its simple but effective, i like how cost effective the designs would be to print cause there only two main colours in it. i also like how you wpuld probaly be able to guess the name of the films without the title being in the image, cause the imagery is that simple.

Olly Moss...

                                                                              Twitter

The piece's of work above and below are by Olly Moss who is an illustrator and designer. I only really like some pieces of his work. I like the one above in particular cause of the bright colours against the black back ground. In a seance you could tell with out looking at the title that its something to do with phones and a social networks, meaning the birds stands for twitter, and one of the birds holding a speech bubble, which indicates commutation.
Below is anothe piece of his work called Tanslation i really like how bold and bright this piece of work is... you can tell straight away that its something to do with differnt languages.

recycling poster... end result

This is the end result for the recycling electrical items project. The main aim of the project was to produce an outcome that will persuade people to recycle their electrical items. I feel like i met the clients brief, because I've used a simple but effective message. I also went with the well known colour for recycle being green friendly colour tones.

illustration friday...cultivate

This weeks word was cultivate, cultivate is another word that can be used for the meaning of growth. I'm not that keen on this piece of work because some of the hand drawn images arnt very clear, i like the colours and the effects I've put on it from editing. I'm also not keen on the digital text that Ive used along with the hand drawn image.

Improvements that could be made...
When we was doing a group Crete that said that my image could be Little clearer, and the lines being bolder.

illustration friday.... stir

                                                                  Stirred emothions

This weeks illustrtion friday word was Stir, and because i like the saying stirred emotions and i like baking as an personal hobbie i decided to encorprate the two together... the media i used for this piece of woek was graphic pen and pencil...
I lie this piece of work because of its simplicity and the way it looks like an illustration, i like the scratchy effect i have done using the graphics pen and the way certain bits of the image look 3D.

Improvements that could be made...
Every week we do a group cret to help each other, and help say what could be improved in our work... This week my peers said that this particular piece of work could be improved with a bit of colour.
Above is the image with abit of colour just to show how the image would look after some improvements that my peers said coud be done, t help my work look better...

                                                                 Stirring Spoons

Going with reason that this weeks word was Stir, i decided to do a skct of some tea spoons, and add different medias, ive used newspaper, graphics pen and pencil to help with shading. Im not has keen on this piece of work has i am the one above i think this is better for the dffrent medias i have used, but the one above is more of an llustraton and looks better to me because it is more simple.

Fransis Bacon... Essay

Francis Bacon English painter born in Ireland, to English parents. Is well know for his bold,  graphic, and dramatic work, that shows alot emotion. He paints abstract figures that appeare isolated in glass or steal cages..  He wasn't always an artist though at some point just before his mid 30's he drifted, earning his living as an interior decorated and designer of furniture and rugs.
He worked with media such has oil paints and

Lucian freud

Lucian Freud an english painter born december 1922, He is well known for he work showing similarities to that of Jenny Saville, Because they both paint nude people, along with other subjects. He also uses the same technique has jenny, like using large, dramatic brush strokes.
Above his one of his pieces of work where the queen is his subject, In this particular piece he has painted the queen in toned down shades of colour making her look regal, In some areas of the work he has used differnts tones such as gray, blue, green and white to high light dark and light areas. He has still used his tecnique though using the large and messy brush strocks.

In this painting he as taken a different approch, adding detail and dull tones of colour surgestting that the attmosphere was sad and miserable, you also think that the room is dark because of the dull colours used. Even though there is detail in this painting he still used large messy brush strokes.
In conclusion I really like his work, and the techniques he uses, the way that his paintings look realistic because of the skin tones uses, the way he high lights areas, making the images look more detailed. I also like the fact that because he uses big brust strocks, it allows him to be quit free with paint, but still making it look great, I can see why he is considered the best artist of his time. Another reason i like his work is that he strays away form the media world by not painting stick thin models all the time, he also paints poeple that are close to him like friends, family, lovers, which shows in his paintings that he cares for the art work has well has the person in the painting, not only does he also paint people he paints animals, showing that he dosent jus limit himself to one subject, that he likes a change.

Jenny Saville... Essay

Saville was born in Cambridge in 1970, she is an english painter, who does traditional figurative oil paintings.
Unlike most modern day artists, Jenny's work strays away form the presses of the media world of having a perfect body, she paints large bodied women.
she paints her subjects in uncomfortable positions and often showing them in pain. Her work often bases her work on surgical procedures, such as liposuction, trauma victums, deformity correction, disease states and transgender paintents. Her work as been compared to that of Lucian Freud and Rubens. Only after researching do you realise that a large proportion is of her, where she puts her own head onto the body of the subjects she paints, i.e like the image below... or sometimes she would put her own body into the images, like the one below below the first image.

Personally i like Jenny's work abit, but not keen on all the pain that the images show. However i like how she has used the oil paints and been really free with the paint brush making it look messy which goes with the painting being based on pain, uglyness, surgery and deformities. I also like the way that the paintings make you feel slightly uncomfortable in seeing a body that is so out of control and filling the canvas, with dramatic and messy brushstrocks and imperfections. Even after all this you still want to look at it.

Illustration friday...Dusty

Dusty Boots
This weeks word was dusty, straight away the word made me think of something old and abit tatty... i decided i want to do an object that would get used every day, and i knew i want to use the media graphics and charcoal to help get a dusty effect i like, so i came up with the phase usty Boots because it looks abit vintage and old... i deciede to put the word dusty into the image to make more sence of the image.

Improvements that could be made
Every week we have a group cret, where my peers say what they like, dont like, and what could be improved... they said that this particular piece of work fits well wih the word used, but might have looked good with a bit of colour and maybe would look good in water colours.
